What is Book Club 802?
Led by by Sydney O’Hare of the African American Museum of Iowa, this “traveling book club” pops up at different bookstores across Iowa. It draws its name from Iowa House File 802, legislation which bans Iowa governmental entities — including K-12 schools and public colleges — from teaching “divisive concepts.” As a non-governmental entity, we can continue to talk about race, racism and systemic oppression, and we invite everyone to join us in the conversation.
