Mindfulness Event

with graduate students in ISU’s Department of Psychology

Date: Sat, Sept 9        Times: 2 and 3 PM        Location: Dog-Eared Books Loft

Come hang out in the Dog-Eared loft for mindfulness exercises on Saturday, Sept 9! There will be sessions at 2 and 3 PM. During each hour-long session, graduate students from the Department of Psychology at Iowa State will lead you through mindfulness exercises like paced breathing and mindful coloring. They’ll also share with you the science behind mindfulness and meditation, giving you a scientific perspective on how these practices affect your mental and physical health.

The graduate students participating in this event are members of Graduate Students of Psychology (GSP) at Iowa State University. GSP is an academic, professional, and social organization that aims to promote and support graduate students, including efforts for community outreach and scientific communication. GSP’s outreach events are intended to connect the organization with Ames and surrounding communities, and to provide local scientific perspectives on topics ranging from mental health to media literacy to other social issues. For this event, GSP hopes to provide a clear and concrete introduction to meditation and mindfulness for those who are unfamiliar, and to expand upon the science of these practices (in other words, the mental and physical processes involved) for more experienced practitioners.

Take an hour to learn about and practice the art of relaxation!
