Authors, promote your book with us!
There are so many ways to promote your book with Dog-Eared Books. Even if you can’t come out to Iowa for an in-person event, we love the idea of working with you another way. Below you’ll find a list of our common offerings and descriptions of how they usually run:
Cocktails & Convos Author Series
- A short reading, a Q&A with a moderator of your choice or a staff member, and a signing. There’s always a themed cocktail and sometimes extra goodies to accompany the book. These events are in-person only, and they are ticketed. Each ticket is the price of the book, and guests receive their copy when they check-in. See our Cocktails & Convos Author Series page here.
- Time commitment: 2-3 hours
The Writers Lab
- The Writers Lab is a creative writing group that meets once a month. During each meeting, a new host helps us target a specific element of creative writing craft through an activity and writing time. After you read more about the Lab here, we invite you to host a session! Just send a proposal following these guidelines to events@dogearedbooksames.com.
- Time commitment: 2 hours + lesson prep
Off the Leash Blog
- We like to feature authors in our Behind the Book series of posts on the blog, and participation is easy! We’ll send you a few questions, and once you get those back to us, we’ll post your answers on the blog. At the end of the post, you can promote your upcoming projects.
- Time commitment: minimal
Bubbles & Books Podcast
- Being on our podcast means enjoying a cool drink with our store owners as you chat books, life, and more. Authors can participate in the podcast either in person or via Zoom.
- To join, contact rachel@dogearedbooksames.com
- Time commitment: 1-3 hours
Signed books and bookplates
- Authors are always welcome to come sign books in store! Likewise, you can send us signed bookplates anytime, and we’ll happily put them in our books to add that special incentive to purchase your work.
- Time commitment: Minimal
Book Club Meet-ups
- Chat with your enthusiastic readers in person or over Zoom at a book club meet-up! It shouldn’t take long — book club members will just ask you a few questions either before or after they discuss the book amongst themselves. We will advertise the meeting as a special meet up so that people who don’t usually attend the book club are still aware of and invited to the event.
- Time commitment: 30 min – 1 hour
Feel free to reach out to events@dogearedbooksames.com about one or more items on this list if something catches your eye. Be sure to include your book’s title, publisher, publication date, and the general time period in which you’d like to do something with us.
What we are able to offer each individual author depends on our event calendar, the book’s popularity at our store, and more, but even if we can’t fit a Cocktails & Convos in our schedule, for example, we will try to do something with you! We love working with authors and are truly excited to hear from you.
