SPONSOR A MONTH OF GOOD BOOKS YOUNG TROUBLEMAKERS! HERE
Good Books Young Troublemakers is a book club where middle school-aged kids read great books and practice speaking up. In GBYT, we create a space for participants to reflect on identity, privilege, and power, and offer tools and practice opportunities to help prepare them to use their voices to respond to moments of injustice, both small and large. In short, we help them learn how to engage in āgood troubleā!
Interested in donating to Good Books Young Troublemakers? Every donation is put towards advancing the Good Books Young Troublemakers mission of using stories to help kids develop empathy, become confident allies, and engage in good trouble.
Not only are books fun, but some stories can also help us learn how to think about injustice, use our voicesāand be good troublemakers! Join Jamet and Lou to chat about Sir Callie and the Champions of Helston by Esme Symes-Smith
When their ex-hero dad is summoned back to the royal capital of Helston to train a hopeless crown prince, Callie lunges at the opportunity to finally prove themself worthy toĀ theĀ kingdomās “great and powerful.”
Except the intolerant great and powerful look at nonbinary Callie and only seeĀ girl. But Callie has always known exactly what they want to be, and theyāre not about to let anything stand in their way.
Trapped in Helstonās rigid hierarchy where girls learn magic and boys train as knights, Callie discovers they arenāt aloneāthereās Elowen, the chancellorās brilliant daughter, whose unparalleled power is being stifled; Edwyn, Elowenās twin brother desperate to win his fatherās approval; and Willow, the crown prince who was never meant to be king.
In this start to an epic series packed with action, humor, and heart, Callie and their new friends quickly find themselves embedded in an ancient warāand their only hope to defeat the threats outside the kingdom lies in first defeating the bigotry within.
