Cocktail Hour with Local Author Denise Williams

Join Dog·Eared Books for cocktails and a live conversation with local author Denise Williams, whose debut novel, “How to Fail at Flirting,” was a 2019 Romanced Writers of America Golden Heart Finalist.

This super steamy romance follows Professor Naya Turner as she tries to break out of a years-long dating rut, the result of a previous emotionally and sometimes physically abusive relationship. Naya’s well-intentioned friends challenge her to check off a daring, let-your-hair-down to-do list that includes letting a guy buy her a drink and having a no-strings-attached hookup. But in the process, Naya meets Jake, who makes her feel safe and challenges her to rebuild her self-confidence. Things get sticky, though, when they realize their dalliance might be a serious professional conflict.

Denise is the Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs at Iowa State University. She grew up a self-proclaimed “military brat” in far flung locales, but now calls Des Moines home, where she lives with her husband, young son and two shih-tzus.
