We’re excited about the upcoming Summer Puzzle Competition!
When: Friday, July 11 at 7 PM
Where: Dog-Eared Books Main Floor
Teams of up to 4 people will be competing to see who can complete a 1000-piece puzzle the fastest!
There will be a refreshment available along with our usual options in the beverage cooler and hot tea.
First, second, and third place finishers will receive prizes.
RULES:
Teams will get 2 hours to complete the puzzle, with potential 15 minute increments added on (up to 2 for a total of 2.5 hours) at the discretion of the puzzle-master.
If puzzles are not completed at the end of the allotted time, the puzzle-master will determine which puzzles will have their remaining pieces counted. Pieces must be combined in at least clusters of five pieces to not be counted against the total.
Teams are allowed TWO puzzling pans up to 16×24 inches in size.
Teams are welcome and even encouraged to bring puzzle mats – the majority of my teams don’t finish the puzzle.
No spectators allowed – only the registered team members.
Tickets will go live at 6 PM CDT on Friday, July 4

Participating in the Puzzle Competition implies full acceptance of its rules (listed in the drop down boxes below). Any incident that arises that is not reflected in them will be resolved by the store staff.
Participants must be in the store and at the table with their team name on it by 7 PM sharp. We will have some introductory remarks and then begin immediately. If a member is not present at 7 PM, they will be disqualified with no refund.
Due to space concerns, no spectators will be allowed at this event.
The puzzle on the table will be wrapped. No puzzler will unwrap or open the puzzle box until the host starts the competition timer and says go, or the team will be disqualified.
Each team can bring 1-2 trays to help them organize their puzzle pieces. No extra lighting or printed/digital puzzle templates will be allowed. Any help during the competition from someone other than your team members may be grounds for disqualification.
Each team receives a 1000-piece puzzle and has 2 hours to complete it. Once complete, the team must yell for a judge to check their time and confirm their finished work.
10 seconds will be added to the final time for each lost puzzle piece. If you find the puzzle piece after your score has been recorded, it cannot be added after the fact, and the penalty remains. In case of more than 20 lost pieces, the team will be disqualified. (Only groups of 5 or more assembled pieces will be counted).
The decisions of the judges during the tests are final.
After the event, the jigsaw puzzle used in the competition is the property of its team members.
