Dog-Eared Books Puzzle Competitions

Oh Deer! It’s that time of year again . . . time for the 2nd Annual Dog-Eared Books Spring Puzzle Competition! Come wearing your finest florals, and bring your best doe eyes to spot the pieces and win the prize. We will have some refreshing lemonade to keep your stamina up as you puzzle with power. Of course, we will have our regular boozy drinks too, so your tipsy (or not so tipsy!) teamwork will be tested. Ten teams of 4 will compete to complete one 1,000 pieces puzzle of the store’s choosing as quickly as possible.

When: Friday, May 3, 2024, at 7 PM

Where: Dog-Eared Books Main Floor

Registration Price: $60 (includes the puzzle you assemble and can take home & registration for your whole team of four)

10% off all in-store purchases, including drinks for the duration of the event. If you open a tab at the beginning of the night, we now offer table service during the event so teams do not have to leave their tables (or lose extra time) to grab a drink.

Registration will open on Friday, April 26 at 6 PM.

Now introducing table service! No more losing precious seconds while you leave to get your own drinks. No more leaving your precious puzzle unassembled. Your team can open a tab at counter, and a staff member will come to you to with water and bubbly!

Puzzle Competiton Rules

Participating in the Cozy Puzzle Competition implies full acceptance of its rules (listed in the drop down boxes below). Any incident that arises that is not reflected in them will be resolved by the store staff.

Before the Event

Participants must be in the store and at the table with their team name on it by 7 PM sharp. We will have some introductory remarks and then begin immediately. If a member is not present at 7 PM, they will be disqualified with no refund.

Due to space concerns, no spectators will be allowed at this event.

The puzzle on the table will be face down. No puzzler will touch or turn over the puzzle box until the host starts the competition timer and says go, or the team will be disqualified.

Each team can bring 1-2 trays to help them organize their puzzle pieces. No extra lighting or printed/digital puzzle templates will be allowed. Any help during the competition from someone other than your team members may be grounds for disqualification.

How We Score

Each team receives a 1000-piece puzzle and has 2 hours to complete it. Once complete, the team must yell for a judge to check their time and confirm their finished work.

10 seconds will be added to the final time for each lost puzzle piece. If you find the puzzle piece after your score has been recorded, it cannot be added after the fact, and the penalty remains. In case of more than 20 lost pieces, the team will be disqualified. (Only groups of 5 or more assembled pieces will be counted).

The decisions of the judges during the tests are final.

After the Event

After the event, the jigsaw puzzle used in the competition is the property of its team members.

Dog-Eared Books reserves the right to post pictures and videos from the event as well as share your social media posts about it (please do post and tag us!).
