Take Action for Iowa

Dog-Eared Books is appalled by the hateful and dangerous pieces of legislation working their way through the Iowa Legislature. Attempts to dehumanize queer folx and to rework our stateā€™s education system to favor the most privileged among us are harmful to all of Iowaā€™s communities.Ā

Meet Zack (top right) and Irene (bottom right), students who attended our postcard writing session on February 8. When asked why it was important for him to share his thoughts to his representatives, Zack said “As a trans man, having support from teachers before coming out to my parents was very important. I don’t think I would be here without their help and support.” And as Irene reminded us, these bills aren’t just theoretical, but will impact real people in harmful ways.

Thanks to your efforts on the 8th, Dog-Eared Books will be sending 148 postcards and counting to Iowa legislators in response to several proposed bills that target our most marginalized youth and families.Ā

Missed your chance to join us? We’ll be gathering again this Sunday, February 12, between 11 and 2PM for another session. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and what better demonstration of love is there than sending a card to your representatives and voicing your care and support for Iowa’s children–ALL of them! All materials will be provided at no cost.

And if you’d like to host a postcard writing session in your community and need some help getting started, send us a message so we can share our materials with you.
